Senate moves to curb VIP abuse in airports
In a report from 234next the senate is set to consider a motion to curb the abuse of Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) by Nigerian airport commandants and security officials.
The motion, which is sponsored by Osita Izunaso and 29 other senators, followed an incident on 23 June in which an Arik Air Boeing 737 700 series 7.15 am flight from Lagos to Abuja and six other flights were, with an advance warning,
suspended in the air for a long time because a VIP was using the airport.
This act was deemed a dangerous practice,
“On that day, the Arik plane was turned back into the sky after the pilot has pulled out its tyres to land. Shortly after the pilot made back into the air, he was given clearance to land; for the second and third time, the pilot was ordered back to the sky after he pulled out tyres to touch down.
A TFR is action taken by the airport authorities to restrict flight operations for a specified amount of airspace, on a temporary basis, in order to provide protection for person(s) or property in the air or on the ground.

It’s a question of Church & State, Okotie bids for presidency
nce again the elections are in the horizon and there will be endless candidiates tauting themselves as the ideal choice.
Chris Okotie the head of the House Hold Church and Chairman of the Fresh Democratic Party, has thrown his hat in the fray alongside other dubious presidential aspirants.
In a report by next Okitie is quoted saying,
“I will run again in 2011,” stated Mr Okotie. “It was a divine call to duty to salvage our beloved country from the inept, corrupt and purposeless leadership of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).” Addressing journalists, the 52-year-old preacher claimed he is motivated by a patriotic zeal and love for Nigeria, to be at the vanguard of the needed change to transform the country. According to him, “the emergence of a credible, visionary and progressive government can usher in a new Nigeria of our dreams” claiming that his “fresh agenda” can “create a new nation which will take its rightful place in the comity of nations.” Reacting to a question about the truthfulness of his proclamation in 2003 that “God has ascertained that I will win the election”, Mr Okotie responded by making a comparison between himself and the biblical Moses, saying “When God wanted to use Moses to lead Israel out of Egypt, he did not tell him when he was going to succeed but he assured him that he was going to succeed.” He also added that only those who do not understand the difference between the exothermic and the endothermic level will doubt what God can do with him.
“The PDP cannot continue to run on this record,” he said, claiming that the party’s reliance on rigging of elections explains why “they refuse to consider the Uwais report on electoral reform” . He joined calls for the immediate adoption of the Uwais report and also decried the zoning system, which he called a PDP aberration.
With his alleged failure of the PDP to Nigerians, Mr Okotie claims he is ready to restore the nation to a path of growth, stability and security. He, however, declined to outline the blueprint for achieving his vision
Ibori fail in Court bid
Former state Governor Chief James Ibori had an application for the enforcement of his fundamental rights denied by a Federal high court , this court filling was and attempt to thwart the EFCC attempts to arrest him for allegedly diverting that states shares in Oceanic bank to guarantee a loan granted Ascot Nigeria limited b y Intercontinental bank.
EFCC declared the ex-governor wanted for failing to respond to its invitation to appear before it.
In the Ruling Justice Ibrahim Buba held that the court lacked the power to stop a statutory body from arresting anybody in connection with a criminal act.
The judge noted that the application before him didn’t disclose any charge by the EFCC, and that it would amount to a waste of time to pontificate on a matter that was not before the court. He said: “Until a baby is born, you cannot tell whether the child would be a boy or a girl.”
The Nigeria President Goodluck Jonathan, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Dr. Okwesilze and 18 state Governors departed Nigeria to attend a two day Conference on Nigeria’s Golden Jubilee, A summit holding in London United kingdom.
The President had just recently returned from Jaunt to Canada as an observer to the G20 summit, a trip which he took 150 officials along .
This trip already is being criticized as is it viewed that the Nigerian role was minimal and did not need so many delegates to attend.
The Summit in London Kicks of a series of activities that will mark Nigeria’s Golden Jubilee.
The summit put together by some unnamed Nigerian will cost Nigeria N10 Billion,
This trip to London will once again draw attack on the president regarding the number of officials that attend foreign summits and it’s staggering costs..
